Vice City Stories : Just when you thought it was safe...

Okay it's great, but you knew I'd say that didn't you. So first off let's gripe about it, and there are some ugly ones here so be ready.

Pop up. The scurge of all gaming, driving games in particular, is evident in abundance on this. It's affected a few of my mission attempts too, it's not just a visual nuisance it actually conflicted with my gameplaying at points. Like when I was trying to lure the cops into a wall only to realise that there was an invisible wall right in front of me and I got slam dunked into it. Not nice, much swearing to be had.

Blur. I was warned about this anyway, it's not half as bad as I expected but it's still apparent and when you turn around sharpish on foot the graphics can send you slightly dizzy. Especially in the fairground area, it's a bit trippy.

Radio Cut Out. Hmm, at first this didn't bother me all that much but it's happening a lot more frequently now. The radio just stops for a second of so. Very annoying, and might just be my disk.

Car Garage Problem. At first I thought I was mistaken but no, the garage in your house south of the second island eats up your cars. All the time. Very bad.

Control. Not much of a gripe, just not used to it. I can change it so the drive by's are easier but then I sacrifice my hand brake. hmph.

There's other little niggles that have happened to me at some points, but no more than what we got in the original games.

Now on with the game. Despite the above problems the actual game is fantastic, it's Vice City in your pocket ferchrisake!

You start the game on the second island this time, in the army barracks. You indeed work for the army, briefly. Soon you get kicked out for bringing a hooker back to the barracks. Then you work for Phil, remember the gun lover in the original. After that you work for Phil's sisters husband and then after you killed his ass you meet up with your brother Lance Vance. Of course the very same. Quite a few missions later you get to open up the original mainland. Hurrah! Thats where I am now.

So what's happened so far?

Well first off I'll talk about the new vehicles and any amended ones I've seen. Most cars are the same as the original VC, the Perinnial is more like the ones you see in LCS though, much better in other words. There's new gangs, and of course they have their own vehicles mods like always. The Cholos's have taken the Sabre, and painted it yellow. It's very neat in fact, but the Sabre was always a fave of mine. The Sabre Turbo is still here, parked in a car park near the airport.
There's a new motorbike - the Streetfighter. It's very mean as you can imagine, much like the 400 in San Andreas. The police bikes are also very cool. Instead of the Fagio we have a new weedy bike, can't remember it's name right now but it's a proper farty thing which you'll probably never ride more than once.
Special vehicles are amazing, once I'd opened up the second island all the flying ones became available and they're superb. The 'Little Willy' is just nothing short of magnificent and I thought I was dreaming when I saw this. It's like a mini copter, with cool guns. I've always wanted a Huey too in a GTA game, and I got one! Alright it has a fire bucket dangling underneath but who cares. You get to put out fires with it too. There's a groovy biplane at the airport, which includes a checkpoint mission.
Jet bikes adorn the water, very fast and a startling turning circle with the handbrake on.
There's a cool bulldozer now available, but seems to have an unmovable shovel, which is a shame.
The new flatbed looks nice, not much difference though.

Chunder storm

Like LCS the map has only changed in some minor ways. The airport is now a lot more accessable with two new road leading through to it, Vigilante missions were a pain in the original because of this but not now. Because of the way this new game plays there are a lot of little shanty type huts, they become apparent as you progress (you need to run your business from them simply put), they've replaced a few buildings.
The stadium area is slightly different, there's a huge building out front.
A few construction yards replace certain parts. There's a massive ship anchored that's now a big restaurant.
Starfish Island looks very different, less trees and more open.
A large fairground sits on the mainland where the original construction site used to be, with working ferris wheel called - wait for it - The Chunder Wheel ! a nod to of course you know what.

I'm into the Rampage system. You can now redo any rampages you may have competed, and they appear as slightly bluer than they would do if you hadn't done them. Very good idea and one which I myself suggested some time ago. *smug illusion that i'm as clever as rockstar*

Lots of unique jumps, really lots. Not a bad thing.

Swimming! Yes it's now a feature in Vice City and no longer will you die just because you rode your bike too fast into that fence. It's quite essential in this type of city really.

You can buy back all your items after being Wasted or Busted. Yes it's called buying a bribe, it costs $2000 which is quite a lot really, but worth it if you lose a lot.

Check out the cool binoculars.

What's the radio like? Brilliant to be blunt. Fantastic 80's tunes as usual, not established a favourite just yet but it's only a matter of time.

Hidden Packages? At first when I looked at my stats page I thought there wasn't going to be any but there indeed is and it's genius. 99 Red Balloons of course. Pop them to collect them, they're helium filled which means they'll always be stuck on a ceiling of something. Brilliant, and will see you looking up a lot searching for them.

This post is getting too long. I'll post again when I have a moment.
